CREATING A PDF FILE
From QuarkXpress 6.0
It is possible to create a PDF file directly from your Quark document through its "Export as PDF feature". This will create a PDF file that you can use in any way you normally would use such a file. The advantage of this is that you do not need to purchase or obtain Adobe Acrobat in order to have PDF creation capabilities.
The disadvantage is that QuarkXpress does not explicitly support PDF/x1-a file creation through its built-in PDF creation tools nor does it use the settings typically packages with Acrobat Distiller. Thus you are required to set your own settings during the process. While not cumbersome, it is worth becoming familiar with the settings in order to produce the pdf files that will produce the most efficient file (smallest file size without losing qualities or other associated features).
Below is a brief "tutorial" on the process for creating your PDF file directly from Quarkxpress 6.0 (Quark 5.0 users: the process is very similar although there will be a few variations in the wording and locations)
1. File>Export>Layout as PDF

2. Select your location and file name to save the PDF file (do not "Save" yet)
3. Before you "Save", select Options Button as shown
